CATERPILLAR Will Unveil Its New C13D Diesel Engine
Publication Date: 2023-04-04
Caterpillar has announced the development of its C13D at ConExpo 2023, a brand-new 13-liter diesel engine platform. C13D is designed to provide improved power density, torque and fuel efficiency for optimizing the engine performance of heavy duty off-highway working conditions.

The inline, six-cylinder Cat C13D engine platform offers eight power ratings from 456 to 690hp (340 to 515kW) with up to 3,200Nm of peak torque, meeting Caterpillar's high standards of reliability and productivity. Engine-mounted aftertreatment and cooling packs are available from the factory to reduce installation and validation costs. The C13D also meets the emissions standards for highly regulated markets including EU Stage V, U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final, China Non-road IV, Korea Stage V, and Japan 2014.

The C13D offers comparable power and torque to Caterpillar's current 13-, 15- and single-turbo 18-liter engine platforms. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can downsize the engine and simplify design, assembly, and supply chain requirements across multiple applications.
Compared to the previous generation of Cat engines in the same power class, the power of C13D engine is increased by 20% and the low-speed torque is increased by 25%. It is designed to run at altitudes of up to 12,000ft, which is twice as high as legacy Cat engines, and in extreme ambient temperatures as high as 140F (60C) and as low as minus 40F (minus 40C) with aids.
